Kat Hendrikse is a session drummer
extraordinaire. In the past 30 years he's played on over 10,000 TV commercials
and numerous TV shows, as well as albums that have sold in excess of 30 million.
He's played drums with jazz legends like Art Pepper and Paul Horn, and Rock Legends Heart.
Our original intent was to
produce a drum loop sample CD using very basic recording techniques, we didn't
want that high gloss produced sound of the 90's but rather more of a off the
record 70's vibe. We wanted stuff that had detail and variation in performance,
and a broad spectrum of tone. We experimented with compression, gating, EQ and
noise reduction, often in radical amounts. The mic configuration was basic kick,
snare and a pair of stereo overheads. No outboard effects were used and the
results we recorded straight to DAT. Ayotte drums were used for the acoustic
loops and we’ve included a handful of loops using a
MIDI kit and various drum modules.
